Hello I am new to this forum but i am quite excited that there are others out there that can give me advice! so here goes...hope someone can help me!

I am 25 and currently working full time in an ok admin job for the arts, struggling to pay a mortgage on my own. It has suddenly hit me that i am deeply regretting not auditioning for music college when i was 18, which looking back now is definately what i should have done and was adviced to do by my teachers, i think a mixture of parents saying i needed a 'real' career and the competition of music colleges pushed me down the wrong path at an early age.

I have good grades - GSCE A* Music, A-Level Music A and Grade 8 distinction on the Flute when i was 17. I was also principle of my county orchestra and played with a high standard - non professional orchestra throughout uni but then things got in the way like jobs, houses and boyfriends and my playing has took a sideline over the past couple of years.

I guess all i'm saying is i'm pretty scared and could do with some advice or encouragement as i haven't spoken to my parents/partner about this yet but only close friends. I know i am still young enough to do this, i would be classed as a mature student (prob wouldn't apply until next year 26/27) and i would be looking to do the 4 year Bmus on Flute/Picc at Birmingham Conservatoire as its not too far away. Has anyone ever studied there and could you tell me what it was like? Also i don't think I would be ready for auditions this November so do you think it would be an idea to get lessons again and audition in 2009?

anyways, sorry if i've bored you I'm a little confused and could do with some advice!!

Thanks

Anna

I'd say getting lessons again would be the first step - none of us have heard you play! But from what you say it sounds promising, if you've maintained your standard on flute smile.gif Your teacher should be able to advise you as to when to audition after s/he's heard you play a few times and seen how well you get on etc.

And welcome to the forums! biggrin.gif
