Hi everyone. an you tell me the meaning of a little o over a note relating to string instruments. It is a grade 6 question. I think it is something to do with harmonics but not exactly sure. Thank you woot.gif

Yes, the little "o" means that a harmonic is required.

It can also mean play an open string.

Now that's what I thought too when I read the first post, so wasn't sure which it was - a harmonic or an open string. So it's both.

Yes, you can usually tell which one it is by what the note is - obviously there are only four notes for which it can mean open strings and you hardly ever play harmonics on those notes.
