Hello,

I just thought I'd let you know that you might see me more in this forum in the future as I had my first clarinet lesson in 6 years the other day smile.gif I learnt from ages 9-c.13 in a group of 3 for 15 minutes a week. Suffice to say I didn't get very far in that time!

Anyway, since then I've learnt to read music (haha) and studied properly so I decided I'd get that clarinet out of its case and put it to some use. I went along for a lesson with one of my friends from uni who did his ATCL before he came and spent 45 minutes going through my old tutor books. In one lesson, we got further than I'd got in those 4 years! It was amazing. Being a pianist, I found it lovely to have just one note to think about at a time and in just one clef, tongueing notes weren't a problem - although I just need to make it sound less harsh - and I could still get a sound out of the thing!

All in all, I'm quite confident about doing this now. My teacher said that it'll just be a case of solidifying technique on a new instrument given that I don't need to learn terms like legato or which pieces should have more rubato etc.

He said Grade 6 standard by summer is certainly do-able. Well, I wrote it here, so pull me up on it and make sure I practise!

Wow, that will be quick work! You'll have to put in a fair bit of practice, but I hope you make it. It will be good to have a challenge to rise to. smile.gif

To be honest now though, it's more "Une journée sans alcool est comme une journée sans soleil." I think I'm developing a problem! biggrin.gif

Or at least I hope so... tongue.gif

My daughter has started teaching herself Clarinet, she's definately under the influence!! In her case it's not alcohol but Barry-Clari that's to blame laugh.gif
