I was wondering if there are any books with exercises to improve violin technique, tone, intonation, shifting, bowing etc. just general exercises.
Like the Trevor Wye flute books kind of thing... but for violin obviously laugh.gif

Kreutzer 42 Etudes...maybe they're obvious and you already have them. It's the only study book I have and I actually like them - but then I am a bit of a geek. ph34r.gif

I really like the Mary Cohen book, Technique flies high which is billed as being for grades 6 -8. It has fairly short exercises which actually sound like music so they are enjoyable to play.

I love this book too and am currently using it with two ambitious students who also absolutely love it. I wish she'd write another one with slightly more advanced pieces, or more of the same; she's already written some additions to her earlier book 'Technique Takes Off'.

I like the 'Technique takes off' book, so I would think 'technique flies high' has got nice pieces in it too smile.gif

I think you'd be better with the 'technique takes off', because there's some techniques in there which you might have missed, seeng as you've progressed so quickly

one exersize a week or two = good

The Mary Cohen books are great - I've yet to have a pupil who doesn't like the pieces!

If you want something that has exercises plus pictures and descriptions of bowing and/or left hand technique it could be worth looking at Simon Fischer's Basics (big heavy book, lots of info and exercises on just about everything) or Louis Kievman's Practicing the Violin Mentally-Physically (bit of a strange title but it's a good book - more concise than Basics but still lots on left hand flexibilty and strength and on different bow strokes)
