Just curious!

In our house, it's a Japanese magazine called Sound & Recording, which has interviews with musicians and composers for son Viohazard, and lots of gadgetry for son Airman.

The Recorder Magazine and Early Music but not every issue. Also I really love collecting vintage copies of The Musical Times and Musical Opinion.

Used to get Music Teacher, Piano and Pianist (I think it was called...) - have stopped all 3 and now get Gardeners' World!!!!! laugh.gif Music Teacher occasionally has the odd good article in but it was rather expensive and was mostly geared towards schools......and eventually I got tired of paying whatever it was for a short column by Eric Proctor........ can't remember why I stopped the others but I haven't really missed them as such - I still have the old copies to flick through now and again........

I still get several music-related magazines (though I don't always get time to read them all!):

Church Music Quarterly (RSCM)
Cathedral Music (FCM)
Journey into Melody (RFS)
Music Teacher

I used to get Singer and Pianist magazine as well, but I didn't find these partciuarly useful.

Oooh what's Music Teacher magazine? Where is it from? I've never heard of it before, but it sounds interesting!!

I normally get Classic FM's magazine!

I agree that it used to be geared towards schools but now it's much more broad-based and has some excellent series in it which are very relevant to instrumental teaching.

might be worth another look....

It does sound really interesting, especially as I want to become a music teacher! I might look into getting it!! Is it sold in the shops, does anyone know, or just bought online?

Musician (MU)
Subscription just run out on Music Teacher, thinking about renewing it.
Just taken out a year's subscription on Saga magazine! - that gives away my age!!!

OK, here goes.

-BBC Music Mag (have every one since it launched, a fabulous cd collection)
-Organists Review (comes with the territory, and have contributed articles in the past)
-Gramophone
-Classroom Music
-Church Music Quarterly
-RCO news (does this one count as it comes free with the subscription?)

Used to get:
-Classical Music, but the jobs pages were the best ones usually, and they are online now
-Music Teacher, the best articles were the ones with ideas etc for the classroom, and they are all now in Classroom Music (as above)
-Choir and Organ, not sure why I cancelled this one, it was pretty OK. I think because it didn't really relate to Joe Bloggs on the ground, whereas OR does
-Classic CD, anyone remember this one? It was the first to give away free CDs and I still use them for A level aural practice, but they got squeezed out in between BBC Music Mag (where you got complete pieces) and Classic FM (who catered for the 'I'm not sure I like classical music yet, but there's a good piccie on the front and a half decent free cd' brigade)

Also closet Railway Modeller reader, but tend to browse and buy rather than subscribe; MacWorld (real computers) and Grand Designs. Pretty eclectic?

PS Have approx 12 more years before embarking on Saga, gives away my age!

Oooh, now that's quite a good read. The only times I've bought a copy (maybe 3 or 4?) is when I've been in Blackwells in Oxford.

Yes, it's GREAT. biggrin.gif
Of course, members of AGO and RCCO get the monthly magazines for free. biggrin.gif

I remember Blackwells in Oxford. Have been there only once, but it was a WONDERFUL store.

The Strad - I devour it and then pass it to my Dad. laugh.gif

Once in a blue moon I buy 'Piano' but it makes me too nostalgic and sad so I usually avoid it.

The BDRS journal (am I only the only one to find it uninspiring?!
I read it too. Well, I say 'read', but it's more of a glance through to see if there is the odd interesting (not so dry) article. Generally, I pretty much find the BDRS uninspiring, not to mention its DRN magazine.

The Season of the Gift Subscription approaches...

I see that there is a wonderful-looking but OUT OF PRINT collection of "Guitar Interviews" from Classical Guitar Magazine...

What non-classical magazines do people read? I hear people in Japan sighing for Q Magazine, but haven't seen it.

Guess what! Having had enough of the tons of junk in our house and garage, I went a bit mad last week and threw away loads of old magazines, including a huge pile of old Classical Guitar, at least 20 years old.

Starting to regret it now! happy.gif
