Full Version: Cleaning Clarinet Keys?

Hey, I play on a Buffet R13 that I've had for about two years and I absolutely love it, it's a fantastic instrument. For the past few months though I've had this increasing problem with the keys. My hands and fingers sweat a lot when I play, and as a result the keys have gotten grubby and sticky, and some of them are even starting to look tarnished and the finish is wearing off. Has anyone else ever dealt with this problem and know of any good ways to clean the keys off to try and fix the problem, or at least stop it from getting worse?

thanks a bunch in advance.

R13s are silver plated. I'm guessing the sweat from your hands is particularly 'silver-unfriendly' (for some people, this'll be the case). To minimise tarnish, wash your hands thoroughly before playing, if you have the opportunity, and gently wipe your keys over with a cotton handkerchief after playing.
