There's a piece in my book which uses a lot of spiccato bowng in quite long passages, but I CAN'T DO IT CORRECTLY!!!

Has anyone got any tips please?

My teacher showed me how to do it, but I keep running out of bow at the end of the passage all the time, which it shouldn't. And it sounds horrible when the bow bounces too much, so can someone help me with this too please.

Why do you run out of bow? I thought the idea was to stay around the point of balance when playing spiccato. Or have I confused spiccato with something else? ph34r.gif

That's what I mean. I shouldn't be running out of bow, but I can't seem to play at the same point in a long passage.

You shouldnt run out of bow, the idea of spiccato is to use light, bow movements in a saucer shape, the bounce is always done at the point of blance on the bow. Try balancing the bow on your finger to find its POB(point of balance). There is part of he surprise symphony in cello time peices I or II, that use alot of spiccato bowing a then using legato, and changing position, and even some harmonics. Its about G2 standard, and i think it might be on the silly bus still for this year.

I did this one for grade 2, but it is not spiccato bowing - it's staccato. You would not be expected to have the technique for spiccato at grade 2 - I haven't done it yet, and I'm doing grade 4 on Monday.

Sorry, but this is definitely one of the most amusing spelling errors I've seen in a long time! laugh.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif

that was done on purpose tongue.gif

well, i played it with spiccato instead of staccato.
If anything, i would have said staccato was harder then spiccato, but its a matter of opinion.
