Theres quite a difference between the ABRSM workbooks and the exams too, so I'm sure you'll be fine if you do plenty of past papers before hand. They tend to be what makes or breaks sucess in theory I find!

(and I do mean plenty, I think I must have gone through about 5 years worth!)

Good luck!

If it helps, you can buy grade 5 practice papers from music shops - they're past papers so if u bought fairly recent ones they should be all you need to know! Then u can see if you know everything, and you could get a grade 5 theory in practice book to go over stuff (even though you don't want to!) They also have books from the AB that are like text book style things that have the theory for certain grades in them, but they look a bit hard going!
Good luck in yer exam!

The Lina Ng books cover the syllabus... best thing to do when you have finished the book is to work through some past papers.

Hi!

im currently doing the Lina Ng grade 5 book for exams next march.

but i also have 'the AB guide to music theory part I' to help me.

I also purchase another workbook called 'New practise in music theory'...it's by another chinese woem from singapore. My teacher said that this book has cetain things which the Lina book does not.

Other than that, past year papers are essenntial!!!!! *sara tries to emphasise on that point just like everyone else tongue.gif*
It give you an idea of the layout of questions and u can time ureself!

Howdie - I got a distinction for my grade 5 and I gotta say - the key is understanding HOW to answer and approach the paper and questions -

Ironically(apart from my grade 7 practical) - its the only musical thing Ive got a distinction for - sad hey?

Plus - I used to go to bed and dream of the theory every noght - had it swimming round my head

I had never heard of her before reading about her theory books on this forum.
