I'm doing the moonlight sonata as well as studying grade 7 pieces. Are you gong to do all three movements?

Have you tried looking at chopin's mazurkas. these are quite fun
or Gershwin
Tchaikovsky

What would you consider fun? Pirates of the Caribbean? High School Musical? (If you want either of these, make sure you get the intermediate version, not the easy version.) Einaudi?

I have what I consider a fun book called "Hours with the Masters" Book 5, published by Bosworth. It's a selection of 22 grade 6 pieces from Handel through to Chopin, so nothing after 19th century, and all the pieces are fun to play. It's about £6. If you want to be more challenged there is also a Book 6, which has 13 harder, longer pieces, but you should try book 5 first.

hehe, yeah, if you want something light, go for movie soundtracks happy.gif

But please not high school musical. The predictable cheesiness of it all....................
hello_cello
the sound of music, the phantom of the opera, joseph and the technicolor dreamcoat all spring to mind. the books are like £8 each and they are REALLY fun to play

Classics to Moderns book 6 has a good mix of music from Handel to Debussy.

Martha Mier's Jazz Rags and Blues book 4 (maybe slightly easier but as far as I know it's the highest in the series)

Some of Scott Joplin's pieces if you like Ragtime?
Sphinx
I find Pirates of the Caribbean music really fun to play!!!! It makes quite a refreshing change from my exam pieces and other pieces that I play!!!! smile.gif

Christopher Norton Concert Collection/one of his other books (Rock Preludes, Country Preludes - there's some pretty good stuff in there) smile.gif

If you liked the new pride and prejudice (2005), the piano solo pieces would be good to play. Although, they are below grade 6 standard, they still sound really nice smile.gif I bought them off amazon months ago, and have not regretted it!
Mad Tom
Nola by Felix Arndt
Something short and snappy from a Moszkowski collection
Scott Joplin rags
Something by Flanders and Swann (the Hippopotamus song)
Teddy Bears Picnic (stop laughing, it is a well-crafted composition and fun to play)
A collection of simple songs (e.g. Appuskiduski, Ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay)
Any of the 'Best songs of the [50s, 60s, 70s. 80s, 90s]' series of albums
See what you can pick up at a car boot or jumble sale. Someone will be seliing off their Grandma's collection of sheet music: Sigmund Romberg, Jerome Kern, Noel Coward, Rogers and Hammerstein, ...

The theme tune to the BBC adaption of "Pride and Prejudice" is nice.

Another TV theme I like is "All Creatures Great and Small". I used to love that programme smile.gif

I was impressed that someone could even try to remember what key a tv theme was in - I doubt if I could unless I'd just heard it smile.gif

It's a cheerful little tune though isn't it?!
maggiemay
It is. I was trying to remember what else he wrote for tv - I have a feeling there were several.

You could be impressed if I'd remembered correctly - but not in this case tongue.gif

For shame. You can't sentence anyone to that surely?

If you like the Moonlight Sonata, take a look at Schumman, Davidsblunder Opus 6 no. 10. Shorter and sweeter than the Moonlight, and I reckon more deserving of acclaim.

(Has anybody else played this - I think it's an underrated little gem. It's in 3/4 time, but the RH sounds like 6/8, while the LH is in definite 3/4, adding to the intensity.)

I second all of these - EXCEPT FOR HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, sorry - they're great fun!
I recently got the CLassical Chillout Collection for piano - that's not bad!

The Pride and Prejudice music's fun to play too.

Einaudi's music's relaxing to play but goes on for AGES.... Easy to learn off by heart though. It's not ALL awful....
trammie
einaudi's pretty easy, but sounds nice and relaxing.
