Well, I am learning my Grade 6 scales. Can anyone explain what they are and how they are constructed please??

Dominant 7ths are chords/arpeggios constructed on the dominant (5th) note of the scale in question. So, for example, the Dominant 7th in the key of Bb starts on an F. If you call the start note 1, then the notes are 1, 3, 5 and 7: so F, A, C, Eb in Bb major. Notice that the last note is an Eb, not an E natural, because it belongs to the key: Bb major.

Diminshed 7ths have the same interval between all the notes: a minor 3rd, although for ease of learning one of them is written using an enharmonic equivalent. For flute, the easiest ways of remembering the Grade 6 ones are Eb, F#, A, C and F, Ab, B, D.

Hope this helps.
