Hey - i'm playing the Presto (last movement) of Summer by Vivaldi in a concert next month and was just wanting advice on how i can improve my technique for this piece. For example, how can i practice my string crossing with all the scale bits? because i'm finding jumping from the G string to the E is quite hard at a faster tempo. Any other interprtation advice or other ways of building my technique for this piece would be greatly appreciated, as i want it to sound really good in the concert. Thanks

Have you not got a teacher? blink.gif Apologies if this seems rather harsh, but if haven't got a teacher and you really want this music to sound good on the day, then I would strongly suggest you have at least a two lessons with a suitable teacher before the concert, to cover technique properly. At advanced level, advice via a forum is not very satisfactory and written instructions are always very open to misunderstanding and misinterpretation.

In general, moving the bow from the G string to the E must involve arm movement followed by hand movement and when going in the opposite direction, hand moves first followed by arm, but, realistically it needs a practical lesson, so that you can actually see and feel how it's done....

The shorter and much lighter Baroque bow would have made playing this music a breeze by comparison to our heavy and cumbersome modern version. Once again, a practical lesson would be of far more benefit to you than a forum.
