Hey. I'm doing grade 5 theory in June.
Does anyone know any websites or books to help with theory, particularly intervals? I have the ABRSM workbooks but I don't know where to get the answers to see if I'm right or wrong. Or does anyone have any good ways to remember how to work out intervals, like augmented and diminished ones lol?
Thanks PSL tongue.gif

Yes, this one. Use the search engine on these forums and you'll be able to read how often this topic has come up. Hopefully the postings will help you a lot.

If you get any specific questions, then fire away, as lots of people will be able to help you on here! smile.gif

i've used this website before; found it useful (though i'm not one to stick at that kind of thing ph34r.gif ) for listening for intervals. I know that for theory you don't need to identify them from sound, but being able to hear what each one sounds like is really really useful - especially for composing. unfortunately i'm not good at it...

maybe it'll help you, maybe it won't, but just thought i'd show you.

Seriously though, check out the Music Practice in theory books grades 3+4 as an adult returnee i was having probs getting back into intervals until i started "re-capping" on these books. They are straight forward, the augumented ones in gr5 are a bit more tricky esp when you come to double sharps etc

David Turnbull's "Theory Time" has exercises with answers if you want to check you're doing it right. Or if you get some past papers, you can also get Model Answers now as well.

And as JohnS says, there have been lots of questions on intervals on this forum as a lot of people have difficulty with them at first, so it would be worth having a look back as there's some very useful advice on those threads. Everybody's got a favourite way of working out intervals, and there are lots of ideas in the previous threads smile.gif

Not sure if you've already found this one or if it's already on the forum but I found

http://www.teoria.com/exercises/ii.htm

very useful for intervals. Especially if you don't have a teacher to check your understanding. Having said that, I'm waiting for my G5 results - if I've failed, this maybe wasn't a great site afterall biggrin.gif
