...you brush your teeth in the morning/evening and try to make tunes out of the brush strokes with different mouth shapes!

Just my little quirk, try it!
trudihiggins
......every word spoken brings a song to mind !
......you find yourself playing imaginary keyboards and clarinets when there's nothing else to do
......you see an instrument and you just can't stop yourself touching it or asking if you can play it
...... you'd be quite happy to stay at homethe whole day and play your instruments without seeing anyone !
and, and, and, ...............
sutty_73
......You add your own words to a well known song

(sung to the music of La Donna e Mobile - "my teeth are hurting me, my teeth are hurting me. I brushed them very hard, my mouth hurts very bard...."

Its been a long day...

Craig.

You're doing something you REALLY dont want to do (eg. homework!) and you want to tear it up into tiny pieces because its keeping you from your instrument!

yep yep yep!LOL unless its music hwk of course heehee

A BIG problem with being hooked on music is that wherever you go where there is "background" music you just HAVE to listen. I just cannot blank out music no matter how awful it is!

I think if I worked in a shop with background music I would go stark-raving mad!!!!!

This thread has just made me thik of a scary thing that happened to me today. Well, kinda scary, but also nice to see too.

In attempt to find out about the use of practise rooms at my college today, I ventured down to the basement of one of the buildings. (This basement is music rooms only, so only music students go down there.)

Anyway, I was startled to find that it is the most buzzing place in the entire college, a veritable hive of music activity, people dashing about with instruments in varying states of assembly, groups randomly singing in corners, music of all types and styles pouring from every room, and even one boy sitting there in the middle of the corridor (surrounded by enthusiastic admirers) playing Gershwins 'Summertime' on his violin!

When you can see all that, and think, wow, this is amazing, thats when you know you are crazy about music!

Constantly having a piece of music stuck in your head...

Right now it's Dvorak's Humoresque, from reading the post about it on this forum!! Earlier today it was the Holborne from my AS music book, and before that the Handel sonata I'd been playing on violin! I don't think I ever have a tune-free brain, if that makes sense! laugh.gif

That happens to me too...

how about singing a song from choir and having your friend reminding you that I'm walking down the street!!! Oh well, there was only 1 other person about who could hear me.

Yeah... I know that feeling! Walking to the bus stop after choir with my friend singing under my breath "Wade in the water, wade in the water children, wade, Gods gonna trouble, the water" etc etc. Then humming "my heart will go on" on the bus... rolleyes.gif

Have to say most of them but definitely the toothbrush thing!! (first post)....I thought it was just me that did that!!

Sitting in maths going t c t c t c t c t c t c t c t whilst working out simultaneous equations?

That advert with the guy who sings "happy birthday to you" while the woman eats those snack a jacks or whatever they are....and he goes really out of tune and it makes me cringe every time. Maybe the fact that it makes me cringe means I'm just retarded though lol biggrin.gif

fluteandbassoon
Yeh. I found myself in French today playing an imaginary basssoon, then a flute and then a piano. I tap out rhythms to songs. And everything else on the list.

I was practising piano scales really fast on the desk in the school library the other day and my fingers were making a really loud noise on the table which was really annoying everyone- I only realised when I noticed about 15 people were staring at me! laugh.gif

-When you pretend that an empty water bottle is a clarinet and you finger your music
-when you always have a band song stuck in your head
-when everyone else would rather eat lunch and you wouls rather play your music
-when you are excited for auditions
-when you get into yelling matches over band politics

Some guilty ones of mine:

You walk home with some friends and sing together, in harmony, the entire 20 minute walk (3pm, this afternoon)
You scream at someone in the pub when their karaoke is bad (me, always)
You turn up to Karaoke at the same place every sunday night, because there's £20 for first prize and it pays for your drinks (me, every sunday!)
You play the piano with one hand while watching tv or a DVD (me)
You sit with a mouthpiece in your mouth making irritating noises while typing on the forum (me) or while watching tv (not me, luckily enough for my flatmates)
You wake up at 4am to play that piece, because your suddenly realised how to get that top D on the flute (last night, 4am until 430am, terribly stupid idea)
You pick up on the tiniest mistakes, and end up laughing at your music teacher because his C# was out of tune, and he can't get top top C on the Saxophone (ok, me again, so we've agreed that while he teaches me classical saxophone, I'll teach him jazz!)

I'm sure I can think of some more - I do the same thing in drama, and walk down the road talking to myself or doing bits from Shakespeare, or pretending to be someone else so I can work on character development on whatever play I'm in or directing at the time!
DavidMusic
Oh let's add one more, which happened in my first week of Belfast:

Almost getting arrested for making too much noise, when you just HAD to have that 10 person jam session outside at 2am... we were let off, cos nobody in the vicinity wanted to complain - they were watching and listening!

Drawin staves, and making up songs, or memorising others and writn them down in my school books, a bad habit of mine. biggrin.gif
Rhapsodin
You are definitely hooked on music when you think a perfect interval is a fourth or fifth

rather than a lunch break long enough to eat, do some shopping and read the paper for a few minutes.

GuestWho!
...or even an 8th?
david_t
You go to a party, but find a piano and practice those blasted four bar.

You give your instrument a name (Bill)

You start telling your friends that the latest no.1 song has parallel fourths in it.

You get withdrawal syndrome after 5 hrs.

You wince when you hear people singing out of tune on the radio.

You sing in harmony to everything

Well very rarely anyway *hem* wink.gif

Your maths teacher asks you for a definition of a chord of a circle ( being a line segment between any two points on a given curve) and you say "a combination of usually three or more musical tones sounded simultaneously."

But luckily my maths teacher has a degree in music and knows what I was going on about!
Mrs Beethoven
...being asked in my 'Performance Review' ( am a midwife ) where I want to be in a year's time and wanting to say 'playing the piano in a jazz band' but saying something sensible instead. Have another review coming up so might say it this time!!!

I so have to try that on mine!

Actually, its possibly not a good idea, seeing as I'm already failing maths miserably as it is. I knew I shouldn't have done the stupid subject.
DavidMusic

stupid subject.

Many musicians (most, in fact) seem to have a talent for maths, as long as they enjoy it. Of course, if you don't like it, you're unlikely to be any good at it, but you can always try very hard to enjoy it and you may end up finding it easier. I used to love maths!
