Hi Everybody, wave.gif
I'm Becky, i'm 27. I've had singing lessons for just under a year now. I haven't done any grades or anything yet.... i'm still getting over singing in front of anyone! I'm a bit like the dog from the new Polo ad on TV biggrin.gif ... quite happy to sing in nice 'safe' places... but not in other scarier ones that have other people in them!!
I joined my church's choir a few months back and that has been a great experience . I'm planning on joining a local training choir in a few weeks time. I'm also becoming a bit addicted to music theory.... I was feeling a bit blink.gif so I taught myself up to grade 3 and did the exam in Feb and i'm waiting to see how I did. I hear they start teaching you magic tricks at about grade 6 level..... put these chords together in the right place and the listener will feel x, y, z etc etc.... i'm looking forward to that! wink.gif

thanks.gif to you both..... what range do you sing/ voice type are you bari-clari? How's it going? What piece(s) are you working on at the moment?

Hi Becky and welcome.

I sing in a choir too and love it. Usually soprano but I can sing alto if needed. Best is when the voices divide and I get a chance to sing second sop. We did lots of lovely music over Easter.

Haven't done singing grades - I did grades on other things, but always liked to sing.

Barry is working on a series of concerts at the moment - give him half a chance and he'll tell you about them !

We did Maunder's "Penitence, Pardon and Peace" at Easter.... loved it... smile.gif What did you sing maggiemay?

My first instrument is clarinet (and I also play other woodwinds) smile.gif , but my voice is at the higher end of the male spectrum. Haven't been singing long, but I did some Quilter and Schubert at the recent forum event in Anglesey. My teacher is katyjay (member no.275 of this forum!).

Thoroughly enjoying the singing! biggrin.gif

I should have realised that really from your forum name! I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to classical music really.... but recently it seems to have exploded into my life a bit smile.gif I'm slowly learning more and I think starting to learn some theory will help. I feel as if it's a whole other language and which I haven't quite got the tools to access properly yet. It's making me keen to learn though. You've sung in front of people at a forum event.?.. sounds nerve-wracking, but good!

Forum events, such as the one I sang at in Anglesey this month, are lovely, friendly, relaxed events to get involved in. Have a look at the forum event calendar Becky, if you're interested, to see if there's an event coming up near you. smile.gif

Go to the General Music forum, click on 'Forum Events', then go to the thread 'It's the 2008 Forum Event Calendar'. The first post in that thread lists all the forthcoming events for 2008, all being well there'll be a few more to add to that list in due course. smile.gif

That sounds fab.... i'll check it out, thanks. I'm just getting to the point where the urge to sing is overtaking the nerves (has been the other way around for ages)... I might try to take advantage of the change smile.gif

yay.gif

I was terribly nervous before singing solo as an adult to an audience for the first time (last July at Stalybridge), but I did it...and enjoyed it... smile.gif

Hope all your singing exploits go well Becky! smile.gif
