Hello,

I know it's a lot to ask, but my violinist sister (around grade 6) is having trouble with the fingering of this piece, Theme from Schindler's List, especially from bar 34 onwards, and I was wondering if someone here could help. Please write it on this scan I made? http://www.geocities.com/alyswalsh/Schindlers.jpg

Thanks for any help.

Hi.
I played this for Grade 7 and would love to show you my fingerings. I will have to look out the piece as I'm not sure where it is so will do it tomorrow for you?
I should add that sometimes my fingerings are not as expected as sometimes I shift down to 1st position for a few notes and then shift back to 3rd or 4th etc instead of staying in 3rd/4th all the time. If that makes any sense?
Anyway I will find my music tomorrow and write it on for you smile.gif

To be honest, if she has a lesson soonish I would say wait and have a look at it with her teacher. I've seen/heard quite a few different fingerings for some bits and I think which one she will prefer depends on hand size/what she feels comfortable with etc.
If not, then maybe she could just have a play with some different ones and see what she likes/is comfortable with and remember that there isn't one definative fingering smile.gif

yeah, waiting for a lesson is a good idea. However if you really have to work it out before just go note by note. I am not too sure on the fingering myself, I think this is harder than grade 6 personally becuase I am a grade 6 player and have no idea what some of the notes are. unsure.gif

However I have noticed that there is a lot of shidting in the first half of the piece at least. Most is in 1st position while an annoying odd note on each line is in 3rd/4th position.
The second half of this piece is mainly in 3rd/4th position.

Hi again, thanks for the replies. She's not having lessons at the present moment and there's no one to ask, so I thought I'd help her by posting here. She can play all the notes and with the correct timing using her own fingering system. She says she uses 3rd position whenever she can, and no 4th position, but it doesn't work for some of the glissandos (she's trying to play it like it's played in the soundtrack). Her handspan is... 18cm (7 inches).

Please PM me if you need email address to send to. =)

Edit: Come on, anyone! Pleeeease. xD
