I read an article by Nancy Litten in February's ISM Musical Journal, saying that this material will be published later in 2008.

Is anyone else looking forward to it like me?

I am! I teach small Keyboard groups that would LOVE to do these..... I'm looking forward to seeing the material. I think the idea behind Music Medals is brilliant! happy.gif

Yes the new keyboard ensembles look good.

I have just found a good new keyboard book it is from the making the grade series. Its 'MAKING THE GRADE KEYBOARD -GRADE 1'. I think you get it on amazon on-line. My pupils really like it- their favourite is scooby-doo.

I was recently left with the task of finding some electronic keyboard duets (!!!), which gave me a bit of a challenge. I bought some very simple piano duets which, I am assured, were just the job!

Hi musicman and welcome!

I'd never heard of this book before. Checking it out on Musicroom and Amazon, it looks like another book I need to buy!

Hi JohnS,

Thanks for the welcome!.

I'm glad I might have recommended a useful book to you. I have used the making the grade piano series since it first came out and found my pupils really enjoyed them. I have been looking for a decent tutor keyboard book for ages. I like this one because it is graded pieces and no letter names!!!, and the tunes are ones that my pupils love playing Eastenders, cornation street, plus some well known classical tunes.

It came this morning and looks like it will used a lot in the future. Thanks for recommending it. If they did a true beginners book, it would be even better!

The music medals is course which you can assess your pupils yourself instead of the pupils taking an exam.

QUOTE
Music Medals aim to encourage pupils to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding to perform music – both within an ensemble and individually – with an appropriate control of sounds and with a sense of interpretation that enables the intentions of the composer to be communicated.

Whilst Music Medals assessments take place in groups -- of equal or mixed ability -- only one member of the group is assessed per Medal. This ensures that full attention is given to their contribution and that individual attainment is recognised.

Have a look here:-

Although you have to train to be able to asses your own pupils. The books for keyboard should have been out by now - I was asked to trail them 3 years ago now. I don't know why they are delayed.

Is your 9 years old year 4's? How many in each group and will they have a keyboard each or be sharing one? The making the grade book will have tunes they will know like scooby -doo, eastenders, Cornation street, Any dream will do , etc. but the tunes go from initial to grade 1. Its not a beginners book. they will have to be able to play a bit.

As one of the main consultants I guess I probably can't say much that hasn't already been announced, but in case you didn't see Nigel Scaiffe's article in the last Libretto, ... the Wait is Nearly over biggrin.gif

Enjoy the new term... wink.gif

I didn't know the five Keyboard Books had been published already. Thank you for the second link that announces this. Something else to buy!
