Hello Everyone,
by the way I am not 'dead' LOL have had a terrible couple of months where I was off work sick with an injured back, then started work again in a NEW job which took all of my time. But now with a back 'back to normal' and having settled in my new job I can finally post again!

Good luck to all of you waiting for exam results...I couldn't do my grade 3 at the end as I had no accompanist and anyway with the bad back I could not practice so I would have done terribly anyway!

Now, to what I should have originally posted about:
My teacher wants me to learn the Schubert Sonatinas:
no 1 in D major
no 2 in A minor
no 3 in G minor

I have bought an edition which has a CD with it, with two versions, one complete (piano and violin) and one with only piano so you can play along.

They sound SO difficult to me!!! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

I am supposed to be at grade 3 standard, what grade are these things you think? they sound a lot harder than grade 3, but maybe it is only 'the sound' of them?? maybe they are not as difficult as they sound????? wacko.gif

Thanks as always about any comments etc tongue.gif

Glad to see you back, jojo - I was wondering how things were with you.

As to your question - no idea! But there's bound to be someone on here with the answers. smile.gif

All the best,

OK -well, just as a start off, the 4th mvt (Allegro Moderato) of the G minor sonatina is set by AB for Grade 7 and TG for Grade 6 at the moment. Think I've got this the right way round!

I can really feel for you having had a bad back - I've got terribly sore shoulders and neck at the moment and have to accompany and play in a pupils concert tomorrow. Roll on the holidays! Hope you're enjoying getting back to playing.
fsharpminor
Have played all these with my daughter, mostly Grade 7, a couple of movements perhaps only Grade 6, and a couple more like Grade 8. Piano part also no harder than Grade 7 piano.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??????????? ohmy.gif ohmy.gif
But I believe I am only at grade 3 standard!
My teacher is not foolish and would not give me anything that is too high to achieve for me, yes he would give me a challenge but would not give me the mount everest to climb usually...
maybe he's hiding something and he thinks I am actually better than 'I' think I am???
if you say a couple of movements are perhaps grade 6 then none of them are grade 3 or 4!!!
I did feel 'scared' when I listened to the CD coming with the book and looking at the score and thought 'My goodness! What on earth has he given me to learn???' wacko.gif

These pieces are not that difficult to play after a fashion, but they are very challenging to play accurately, musically and up to tempo, and very revealing of the player's shortcomings.

Now, there's maybe the real reason why my teacher wants me to learn them??? not too difficult to 'just play them' and once I get the basics 'under my belt' and try to 'master them' they will teach me a lot about myself as a player apart from the obvious that they will help just generally improve?
thank you discopants (love the nick-name by the way laugh.gif )

I only have violin lessons once a month, my teacher always give me a piece to work on that is above my level so that I am challenged. I can look at a piece of music and think "oh that looks easy" but it's actually quite difficult to play it well. I think its good to play harder pieces so that you can work on areas that you struggle with!
