Just to say that the latest Jolly Music book - Level 2 - has just come out - I got my copy on Tuesday!
I'm delighted with it - it looks gorgeous again, plus it's one of my Year 2's on the front cover.
It's the third book in the series - only four more to go...

Just seen this : well done Cyrilla and all involved in the publication

I shall very much look forward to adding that to my collection in due course, although the Beginners Big Book is sitting at my piano teacher's house at the moment for her to have a good look at it and to use it with her teacher's handbook.
EDIT: My one-click finger on Amazon couldn't help itself; books soon to be despatched.

Got mine this just now! It looks great. I'm really looking forward to using this during the year. The methodologies are so logical in these books and they just work a treat! Can't wait to see my kiddies making more big leaps this year.
Big congratulations Cyrilla! I hope the work is going well on the next one!

Just as I expected; yet another beautiful Jolly Big Book and Handbook. I was not quite expecting to use it yet. It was delivered to work. The first hearing I was due to attend was cancelled and I had a two hour wait before my next one. The MD asked me if I would entertain a two year old (3 in October) as her father needed to bring her to work. She was rather shy and would not say a word until I thought, "Ah. Let's open my parcel." On showing her the first picture, there was an immediate response and a lighting up of the face when I asked her what she could see. She said "hearts". I said to her that in music we have beats and then showed her what I meant by reciting "Bobby Bingo" and tapping the beats. After all I wasn't going to sing it in my office. I sat on the floor in my office (in my suit) showing this delightful little girl some other pages and saying the words to her. She told me what she could see in the pictures and always included "hearts". Then I got excited and saw "Hot Cross Buns in it" and I was telling two colleagues about solfa. One of the guys said, "Sulphar" is a chemical. You can't give that to children. I then demonstrated in a low voice using the signs. This edition for children aged 6 to 9 was certainly a hit with a rising three year old.

Delighted to hear about this, PianoNotes!!!
Slightly off-topic...when I did a day with teenagers on the York Youth Choir Easter Course this year, apparently one of them wrote in his evaluation how much he had enjoyed learning about 'sulphur'...

Yes, I was suprised that I managed to see it. And it was lovely! Next question for Cyrilla - where do you get all those nicely behaved children? By comparison mine are little monsters - despite my "how dare you do that" stare!! Perhaps it the latin temperament down here!!

Actually they're just a lovely class (Year 2 - 6/7 year-olds) - and I have a fantastic line in Paddington Stares anyway (hardly ever do I get anyone play up).
Thank you for your kind comments!!

Just wanted to add my (slightly late) congrats on the books Cyrilla. I'm starting up some pre-piano classes in September and bought the Beginners book to help give me some ideas. I absolutely love it and cannot wait to try it all out with the kids

Also looking forward to getting the next level!

Thank you!! Hope you find using it easy/interesting/helpful - oh, and fun! Levels 1 and 2 are (obviously!) continuations of the Beginners' Level. Level 3 is being edited at the moment (just finished proof-reading it today..*mops brow*) and should be out by January. We've just started writing Level 4...

I've used the Beginner book with ds1 and a couple of his friends. They absolutely loved it. Since then he has started piano lessons (few months before his 5th birthday) and he's whizzing through My First Piano Adventures. I'm sure it's because of the excellent preparation.
Now I'm doing it with ds2 (age 3) and again, they love it!
Well not only is it out, but it has been winning all sorts of prizes.
It is one of those things that has a 'like' link clicked on my facebook status and with good reason. It is an extremely good Primary Music Course and the material is very well presented.
It also fits in with the 'house style' of Jolly Phonics, which many schools are using already, and is compatible with the Sing-up programme.
I was talking with my colleague who is a Kodaly Specialist about this only the other week and saying some very favourable things about it.
In particular:
How it engages Aural, Visual and Kinaesthetic Learners.
How sound the Principles are behind the ideas.
How it fits in with her recorder tutor and piano tutor books.
How it fits in with the National music plan.
How much more imaginative it is than Music Express.
How it is compatible with the way both of us think and work as musicians.

I think I may have just thought of a graduation present for him
