I cant do it.

I cant perform enough as it is.

I dont have an accompanist as of yet.

I dont know what to do for my ensemble.

I feel nervous about it already and it isnt until the 30th.

*puts on sensible head and thinks of her music teacher*
First of all, DON'T PANIC! thereThere.gif
Secondly, you've got 22 days to practice, and as I basically live in the music department at school, I've heard lots of AS Level recitals or bits of them and I don't think you need to play for that long... do you? Or am I missing something (sorry if I am)
For the accompanist, can your instumental teacher do it? Or your course teacher? Our head of music accompanies about 90% of candidated, either because they want her to or because they don't have anyone else.
I see from your profile you're a clarinettist. Can you find some like minded people or some teachers to do a quartet with, like a small wind group? Or find an arrangement of a piece for a few clarinets? I'm not sure if you can just use a pianist to make an ensemble or not.
Hope this helps smile.gif (sorry if its rubbish)

You can do it.

You can perform!

You can get an accompianist *remembers friend who was looking 2 days before!*

What would you like to do for your ensemble? Give us some instruments and we can find some decent repertoire for you smile.gif
Soph15
It is for clarinets.

I cant perform in front of my own course teacher, and there is no reason for me to be nervous with that. I cant perform it in front of people I have never even seen. I know it probably sounds stupid, but it is really worrying me.
Rosemary7391
Its not stupid. Performing is tough but you can do it! What are you playing for your recital?

'Summer' by Paul Reade.

'Fast zu Keck'

and a piece by Gerald Finzi.

For my ensemble I dont know. unsure.gif
Rosemary7391
Those are nice pieces smile.gif I don't know the 'Fast zu Keck', but the other two are lovely! I'm sure you can play them beautifully.

Who else will play in your ensemble? If its another clarinetist, then theres loads of music to choose from! Plenty of duets. Maybe they've got some music?

I arent sure whether it can be a duet or not. I have asked someone else, but if it is a trio/ quartet, then I dont have anyone.
Rosemary7391
I'm pretty sure a duet would be fine. If you can't find anyone then your music teacher should be able to play with you?

I feel I waste enough of my teachers' time, without asking for help with this as well.

Right now I dont want to do it.
BerkshireMum
Not to do it at all would just be throwing marks away. You always get a fair few marks just for attempting things, so screw up your courage and give it your best shot. You may as well get an AS grade out of this now you've come so far towards it! smile.gif
BBTOTW
For AS, as long as you play mostly the right notes and have some expression, it's pretty easy to get a decent mark. So don't worry about it too much smile.gif Hope it goes well!
Soph15
Thanks everyone.

Funny this thread has been brought up again... it is meant to be tomorrow sad.gif
Rosemary7391
Good luck Soph, I'm sure you'll do fine without it though!

singerpianist
How did it go? What song did you choose to do in the end?

Soph15
I played:
'Summer' by Paul Reade
'Forlana' by Finzi
'Fast zu keck'

and a duet by Metzger

I am annoyed with how it went though, I still managed to let people down.
lizbun
Don't worry.
I'm sure it was good.

Just relax - I'm sure it wasn't as bad as you thought, and it's all over now anyway. smile.gif

Hurray for Soph! woot.gif You played! Bet it was better than you think, too. It doesn't have to be perfect, and each time you play a piece it will get easier to perform without panicking.

Good luck with the listening and written exams now - be confident! goodLuck.gif
