Full Version: Violin Concerto?

diapason
I apologize for knowing very little nothing about the string repetoire.

However, on Monday morning I was listening to Classic FM at about 10.15 am.

Owing to interruptions, I heard neither the title nor the closing announcement regarding the piece in question, but I can only describe it a being a violin concerto???? - certainly a violin solo with orchestra..........

What struck me was that the opening phrase on the violin was the same as the opening phrase of Cole Porter's "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To".

If say it was in the key of D minor the notes would be ....... D E F E D C# D A

Sorry for vague information............any ideas? unsure.gif

I believe that would be "Zigeunerweisen" by Sarasate (not a concerto BTW).
Violinia
It does sound like Zigeunerweisen - an amazing, very virtuosic piece. Check this out and you'll know if you've got the right piece:

IT IS !! IT IS!!

Many thanks. Now, with apologies to all string players, I will track down a copy and work on a theatre organ arrangement of "You'd be So Nice.........." in the style of Zigeunerweisen.

Thanks to all

Itzhak Perlman recorded the most incredible version of this piece. I'm playing it now. Not quite so well unsure.gif
