I agree with noodle that Hollie was extremely lucky in being able to have a second attempt (IMO she probably shouldn't have been allowed to). And if she froze once, what are the chances that she'd freeze again on the much bigger occasion of the RVS? I'm glad she didn't win - of the singers I liked Shaun's voice the best although I didn't see his Final performance as I started watching too late.......

I only just realised last night we had Faryl Smith in the final last year, and this year we had Julian Smith and Shaun Smith. It seems that if your surname's Smith, you certainly have talent...tongue.gif

I could name a few exceptions to that rule...
well, they may have talents, but they aren't that obvious!!

For anyone who's interested, the (unofficial) voting percentages for the final were as follows:

Diversity = 24.9%
Susan Boyle = 20.2%
Julian Smith = 15.8%
Stavros Flatley = 13.3%
Shaheen Jafargholi = 7.8%
Shaun Smith = 6.3%
Aidan Davis = 5.8%
Flawless = 3.2%
2 Grand = 1.9%
Hollie Steel = 0.8%

Thanks for posting this CE. Was wondering how the voting was divided. When Simon Cowell said there were about 6 worthy winners, was he thinking of the top 6 above.

Possibly, although I think Julian Smith was a shock, I never imagined he would get in the top three! It's a shame Aidan Davis didn't score higher.

I am glad Hollie Steel didn't get into the top three, it's reassuring that she didn't get the sympathy vote this time, she shouldn't have got through to the final at all in my opinion, the judges (and the voters) seemed to dismiss that she made such a huge mistake.

I would imagine that if Diversity didn't enter the competition/make the final, Flawless wouldn't be 8th, but they would most likely have finished in the top 3, or may even have won it.

With Julian Smith, he was the only 'unique' act in the final as the others were all either singers or dancers, so that might suggest why he surprisingly came 3rd.

Ah - thought the figures were going to be different. Stavros Flatley nearly claimed 3rd place then ohmy.gif

CE - apparently one of the performers in Diversity is a Smith too!
And there was a Dominic Smith in series 1 (he came 3rd in Paul Potts' semi-final)!

Of course they put Holly through last night. They were more or less threatened with tears and tantrums if they didn't and I suppose they didn't want to make her cry again... even though she did anyway.

Hey ho - I'm a heartless fiend this morning laugh.gif

This is heartless. Having been around dance festivals quite alot I can assure you that it's not uncommon for children to freeze, when things go a bit wrong. Particularly if it's something they have been working on with their teacher to put right. The less experienced they are the more likely it is to happen. As they get more proficient then they hide all their little mistakes or learn how to deal with them.

Missed this one. I know what you mean... but come on! You can tell right away that wasn't the first time the girl had been on the verge of a tantrum. She actually stamped her foot! As soon as they said she could have another go it went back to sweetness and light. All I got was an image of a very spoiled little child who (nervous as she may have been) has probably never been told "no" in her life....

I also couldn't help bursting out laughing when that Grandad appeared to be fast asleep when he was supposed to start singing his part... but not in a nasty way - it was just funny laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

On the news last night they said that Susan Boyle has had to go for treatment for the stress of the whole thing. I haven't watched any of it at all but, because my son refused to go to bed on Saturday until he'd seen the result, I did see the final line-up and announcements, and I think she looked awful - not her actual looks, if you see what I mean, but her expression and demeanour - it looked as though it was all too much. And then when the winners were announced, she gave such a lovely smile, that I wondered whether she wasn't actually relieved!?
