ok - now I have the AB Real book (C edition), I notice that most of the tunes are on the low side - my flute doesn't have a lowB (or Bb!) - my assumption is that its perfectly ok to transpose up an octave ? I can't imagine its a problem, but it would be nice to hear from experienced Jazz Fluters out there.

Thanks

Not an experienced Jazz Flautist. My daughter did G5 Flute this session and transposed up. It was a bit of a shock at first though biggrin.gif

Thanks - should be fairly straight forward once I get the hang of it.

Yes its not uncommon to have to make slight alterations to suit the range of your instrument. For example some of the Bb Real book tunes go to low for the tenor/soprano sax and need to be transposed in parts to be playable and also the Real book does actually state that this is perfectly fine to do so.

That's right. Transpose at the octave, as appropriate.
