Hi all
its been years since ive done this ofcourse, but ive been working on past exam papers for grade 4 theory and come across questions like this and im getting confused because of the dot.
Eg-ive come across a dotted quaver and 2 demi-semiquavers that are beamed together and the question is what do they become if they are doubled/twice the value, or if the value is halved etc.
Any help would be appreciated thanks.I passed the exam 20+years ago but its just recapping of course
Thanks, blush.gif ill.gif

Dotted quaver and 2 demisemiquavers beamed together :

Double the value - turns into dotted crotchet and two semiquavers

Half the value - turns into dotted semiquaver and 2 hemidemisemiquavers (4 beams)

You need to be very careful with the time signatures when halving/doubling times eg 3/4 becomes 3/2 (double) or 3/8 (half time)

Hope this helps..

Don't stress over the dot.
A dot after a note is ALWAYS half of it's value so just double/halve the note and add a dot.
