What's this about Maxim Vengerov quitting the concert circuit?
He's only 33! A sad loss if he does.

Hadn't heard this. I know he was having problems with his arm last year, so don't know whether that has something to do with it? I expect the concert circuit is incredibly stressful once you start having any kind of health problem.

Don't believe all you read in the press.
I was speaking with Maxim only yesterday and he is very disappointed with the way the Times article was edited (possibly for publicity spin!).
He WILL be playing again, but he has not yet decided when. It may be as early as July this year, or it may be longer. He has got diverted since having an enforced absence last year due to his injury (which is now fine) into other projects, including conducting, writing a book, and a DVD
, and is enjoying doing other things for a while.
He has NOT retired, got bored, or given up in favour of conducting, contrary to gossip in the press.
He WILL be back. I have this from 'the horse's mouth'.
Up to date info will be on the website in due course.

He's a passionate conductor but I'm really glad to hear that he'll be playing again.
I really enjoyed his masterclass today. There were lots of people milling around him in the Foyer afterwards. By sheer fluke, he walked past my car on his way out of the RWCMD - what a lovely guy
- he stopped and let me take a photo of him with my daughter. LT minor's response in the car afterwards - "What's his name again?"
- but you could see by the look on her face that she was really thrilled

Alison is a star trumpet player and has the same zest for life (musically and generally) as Maxim. The two of them couldn't do anything other than get on like a house on fire.
