Please, does anyone have any idea what form this is? It' not strictly rondo form, because it's ABACAD, and doesn't end with an A section. Could it be sonata-rondo or something? By the way, it's in the current Grade 5 violin exam lists.

This is a shot in the dark, because I don't know the violin syllabus - but I just wonder if the 'D' section is in fact a coda - in which case your piece is possibly rondo after all? ABACA coda? How contrasting is the 'D' section? is it built on anything which has been used before?

(ed) looking again at the title of the piece it rang a bell - Nicki_flute played it last week at the Rotherhithe recital. You might like to pm her and ask her whether she can shed any light on the form.

Ah! No, the 'D' section isn't built on anything that has been used before; it's actually rather different from the rest of it, so it could indeed be a coda - and the ending especially points to this.

Thank you so much!

We-ell - you're very welcome, but there's no guarantee that I'm right! biggrin.gif

It's quite possible that some other ideas may come up - I'd be interested to see.

*thinks*...the three 'A' sections are definitely the same...and there's a B and a C section inbetween the A sections, and it ends with something very different, so...ABACA-coda.

I would say maggiemay has probably nailed it, but it'll be interesting if anyone else has a different view, yes. smile.gif
