Beethoven biggrin.gif

Beethoven - purely because of how he was moving more towards Romantic than Classical. I prefer Romantic. Also he used piccolos!!! tongue.gif

My preference is for Beethoven but I love Mozart as well. It takes a special kind of musician to play Mozart well.
Mad Tom
My favourite composer:

Mondays - Haydn
Tuesdays - Mozart
Wednesdays - Beethoven
Thursdays - Liszt
Fridays - Debussy or Schumann
Saturdays - Scriabin, Prokofiev or Rachmananinoff
Sundays - Bach or Scarlatti

Beethoven every time ! So much more mature considering he was born only 14 yrs later.

Beethoven's Symphonies are more breath taking (although Mozart has the requiem and Don Giovanni). Mozart works I find neater, and plus it makes me smile most of the time so I am going to go for Mozart (Beethoven does too but not as often).

Neither is my "favourite" but between the two, Beethoven hands down, though I do love many of the later Mozart pieces, especially the minor key ones (e.g. A minor Rondo, C minor Fantasy, B minor Adagio) and of course Don Giovanni
my_broken_strings
i'd prefer beethoven's music, i love his piano sonatas wub.gif

Mozart as there's more vocal stuff.

But I've now ordered one of the Big Boys' Box of Beethoven, to go with my Mozart and Bach sets - that will come to about 400 CDs in three boxes.

Beethoven I think!! I love his Romanticy stuff!! smile.gif

Mozart........ Not much pedalling to do in the piano music (I don't like pedalling)..... and he wrote great clarinet music....
BerkshireMum
I like both - depends what mood I'm in which I listen to. Beethoven is more exuberant, but give me Mozart to induce that feeling of utter peacefulness so soothing at the end of a busy day.

I think I prefer Beethoven... I always feel that he has more... 'flair'... tongue.gif

Beethoven. Lots of lovely melodies, but also real gutsy music at the same time

I think it's well known who I prefer!! biggrin.gif wub.gif

(I do love Mozarts' Mass in C Minor though smile.gif )
andante_in_c
Despite my Forum name, Beethoven.

Think I may be in the minority here, but for me, it's Mozart every time. biggrin.gif

I'll join you in the minority. Piano music (and choral) is what I'd listen to most, so I can't comment much on the rest, but I have to admit, as a pianist, that I find a lot of Beethoven's work heavy going. Some of it I love, but if I had to choose an evening's worth of listening material, it'd be Mozart every time.

Want to join the party in the cafe, Dulciana? We could do with a few more! And there's Mozart playing!
SueHM
Mozart clarinet concerto makes me cry and reminds me of my grandmother for no good reason. I shall have the slow movement played at my funeral.

And for my lighter moments, Pastoral Symphony always raises a smile.

For playing satisfaction, the Beethoven Piano Sonatas.

Mozart for me too. Makes me laugh at times and cry at other times, and for me it can't get better than that.
lizbun
I can't choose.well, if i have to, it'll probably be Mozart though

I love mozart sonatas, oboe/clarinet/flute and harp concertos etc..., but I love beethoven as well

ad_libitum
For orchestral music I prefer Mozart, but for piano music I prefer Beethoven smile.gif

Mozart wins for me, everytime smile.gif

It seems Mozart fans are no longer a minority. biggrin.gif

Personally, I prefer Beethoven. It can be thundering and passionate, and then suddenly turn into a beautiful floating melody.

But I do like Mozart as well. I love his piano sonatas. wub.gif

I sometimes just get sick to death of Mozart. I swear to god, in certain moods I wish he'd never picked up that stupid pencil to write his first concerto. Of course that is just in some moods. Sometimes I love him with a sickly passion. However Beethoven is consistently mediocre.
musical_K
Beethoven all the way!!

mozart is a bit too neat and well-behaved for me

i find beethoven has a bit more depth

ALTHOUGH mozart's violin concerto in G major is luuurrrrverrlyyyy smile.gif smile.gif

I just heard Mozart's 2nd movt of the Flute and Harp concerto on YouTube. If angels existed, then this is what I could imagine them playing. wub.gif
