I have just been lent today some music by Oscar Espla, born Alicante 1886, died 1976. Anyone know of him ? He studied with Saint Saens. His work seems to have been recorded and championed by Alicia de Laroccha.
I had never heard of him before, I'm expecting his music to be possibly like Mompou (1893-1987), whs music I enjoy.

Anyway I've got 'Suite de Pequenas Piezas' (tilde on the n of course) to sight read this evening ! Looks quite attractive and Grade 7-8 standard. I'll report back when Ive tried it.

If I'm not mistaken he is in the grade 6 piano syllabus which the piece is taken from that suite (the cradle song). I do like his music, he was my second choice in list B. I think the pieces are probably around 6/7 standard with the occassional 8.

Well, I sight read the suite last night, but I need to play them through again this evening. I'll reserve judgement until I've played them again, but I didnt find them particularly interesting.

Indeed Chanson de Berceau (Cradle Song) is the second movement of the five and certainly by some way the easiest (I concur with Grade 6), and I'd say the most attractive of them
