Full Version: Cheap Digital Piano?
Forums > Viva Network > Viva Piano
hello_cello
Hey,
Well, im looking to invest in a cheap - tempory - (actually is that an investment if its tempory?), but can anyone reccomend a cheap model, or where i can get one?
I dont have one, and dont want to spend lots because for my 16'th (a year and a half away) mum said i will get a DIGITAL GRAND! *twitches* I will also have the acoustic piano, but that isnt too great, its old, and the keys are very heavy, but it will do. I mainly want a digital piano for the voices, because i like to play music authentically, if that makes sense? Like, harpsichord for kabalevsky and things like that, and an acoustic sound for more modern peices, i guess the main voices i want are Organ, Piano and Harpsichord, nothing else really matters. Sustain pedal would be good. Can anyone recommend any sites? Ive tried the freeads site, ebay and gear4music.

If you want a cheapy that will give you the sounds that you want I am sure that ebay is your best bet. There are lots of Yamaha keyboards there and if you can find a touch sensitive one that is no more than a couple of years old you might find a bargain.

Hello hello cello

I have to confess to being a bit mystified by several points in your post.

1) Harpsichord for Kabalevsky?? Am I missing something here? Kabalevsky lived entirely within the twentieth century and while I realise that some C20-composers (such as Maurizio Kagel, I think) have written for the harpsichord, I wasn't aware that Kabalevsky was one of them.

2) Why on earth do you want a digital grand? The whole point of a grand piano is its construction; the horizinal rather than vertical strings and so on. A digital piano obviously doesn't have strings so all you get is a digital piano that takes up more space with probably just the same sound quality.

I don't think you'll find any digital pianos anywhere that don't have a piano, organ and harpsichord sound; even the very cheapest keyboards have those. Also all digital pianos will have a sustain pedal. If you just want something for a few months until your birthday why not just rent one? It will save you the hassle of having to get rid of it, and I don't think it's too expensive to do that.

And finally, I think you'll find you're looking for a temporary piano. Sorry...
hello_cello
sorry didnt mean kablevsky, i meant Lohlein
digital grand with strings (is that a player piano?)
there are more important things in life than spelling 'temporary' correctly.

No, a digital piano doesn't have strings! That's the point!

as i said...
'digital piano with strings' or player piano

'digital piano with strings'

Do you mean "with the sound of string instruments" as an option? My digital piano does that. It's not very useful though as my string section can't keep up with me sad.gif

A player piano -
Its a piano with strings (an acoustic piano) that you can put rolls, or CDs, in and it will play itself manually, like a pianola, but also digital.

HC,

I think you're being a bit rude to other people that are trying to help you. How much have you gone into this subject? Before Czerny posted, I was thinking the same about your original post. The spelling mistake, perhaps doesn't matter, but Czerny didn't make a great deal about it - it was at the end of the post.

I looked into player pianos a few years ago and didn't find any piano that does both rolls (why would you want these anyway) and CDs. Here is one that is advertised at the moment. It's a great deal of money. Are you seriously thinking you will get something like it for your 16th birthday?
hello_cello
i apologies for being rude, i just get a little annoyed when people comment on the spelling of my post, and considering it isnt the first time...

what i mean is something like this (not for the moment, like what we are getting next year)

http://www.bonnersmusic.co.uk/buy/Yamaha/D...Player_Piano%27

That is the same as a regular (baby) grand piano, but also can take CD's, like rolls in a pianola.

Go to this site:

www.reidys.com

everything is so much cheaper!!

Check out this yamaha protable grand http://www.reidys.com/index.pl?submit=View_PLU&PLU=2228

I played one today and its lovely!!! Feels just like an accoustic.

http://www.reidys.com/index.pl?submit=View_PLU&PLU=2227 - these are similar, but with less features. Still the same feel to it.

Well that's a perfect example of why grammar, syntax and spelling are so important!!!! Because you didn't use a sentence it was completely unclear what you meant! I totally misunderstood you and so did Alicia Ocean. Anyway, I was only trying to help.

What's the point of waiting to get a new instrument and an expensive one at that? I can never understand why people say they will upgrade to a new instrument when they get to grade *. I have had string students who say they're going to get a new violin for their grade 6 or maybe grade 8. They have the instrument for 18 months and it never comes out of the case again as they go to uni and study medicine or whatever. Why not buy it sooner and get more use out of it? Anyone enlighten me?

Exactly what I did. I saved up money from a Saturday job for almost two years when I was in the sixth form to buy myself a better violin. I then went to University to study languages and barely played it. I still have it and for sentimental reasons don't want to sell it but I can't really see myself ever playing it again. With hindsight, I wish my parents had bought it for me when I first got a job and that I had paid them the money back over two years - at least it would have got a fair amount of playing that way.
