OK so I know i should have checked this earlier but at this current moment - I'm a bit panicky for shoulda wouldas...
Basically, the OCR board has a major point in its assessment criteria that has made me jump. That is that the pieces should be of at least grade 6 standard. And im stuck on the trumpet needing Grade 6 pieces by Dizzy gillespie (coursework subjects)...
Unfortunately, the fact is that most of his pieces are bebop tunes - there's only a 32 bar head. The alternative to this is for me to play written out solos but although I am grade 8, i have a poor range (i can only just scrape a high C) and this makes it difficult is not nearly impossible to play his improvisations.
And so the actual point of all the above...
For the people who have already taken music a level, did any of you do any improvisation? If so, then how diffiuclt was the head piece? If not (generally most others), how much do you think the fact that you have to improvise will be factored into the difficulty of the piece?
WHat are the examiners looking for =(...?
All help appreciated...
