Hi

I have just finished a bit of an experiment. I have put up a video of me playing a piece on Youtube and would welcome comments.

I think that it is inappropriate to 'clog' up the ABRSM forum with comments on a specific person and piece so I suggest that anyone who wants to make suggestions for improvement (or just say something nice smile.gif or even not so nice ) does so on the YouTube comments under the video.

I am not sure how well this will work but thought I'd give it a try.

So here goes:
search for Variation in F major - Beethoven

it is in two parts (part 1 and 2) and my Youtube name is 2x8keys

the link seems to be part 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mu29qTDDDbQ

and part 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzNnC471tY4

sometimes with youtube it is better to start it playing then let it stop and start as it downloads without listening then slide the red button back to hear it properly - otherwise you get it in 5 sec bursts!
I shall now anxiously wait to see if
i) anyone actually locates it
ii) anyone actually listens to it

if you do comment can you use your ABRSM forum name so I know you are someone valid not a random non-musical hoaxer!!

thanks

PS I'm 15 not 51 as it says on my profile .. somehow Youtube reversed the numbers tongue.gif

Im not registered with youtube so I will comment here. You have had people watch biggrin.gif

Im no expert on piano in fact I know nothing. But it seemed like an accomplished performance. I would have liked to have heard more dynamic range. But otherwise good job!! clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif

I liked it, well done. I'm not a Beethoven expert so I can't give you any real advice to be honest. The only tiny tiny thing would be to secure one or two of those turns a little more, but that would certainly be nit-picking! An enjoyable performance.

Just listened to the first couple of minutes as I'm in between lessons......sounded good- lovely phrasing in particular
Mad Tom
It is simultaneously:

1. Very Good

Not many people could play this at all - never mind so well. You play it better then I do! So heaven knows how good you'll be when you reach my age - if you stick at piano.

2. Could be better

Try to get hold of Claudio Arrau's recording to hear just how much more is possible with more variety of touch, more dynamic variation and control, better shaping of phrases (no clipped endings), and subtle use of the pedal.
