I'm trying out a child on a kinder clarinet who is rather younger than my other students!! She is a sibling of another student and her mum is really keen for her to start, ( her mum at least says her daughter is keen).
There appear to be many books and schemes designed for younger pianists.... but is there anthing out there specifically for young clarinet players?

Clarinet Basics might be quite good for young learners. I seem to remember it has lots of cartoons etc in it.

Abracadabra Clarinet is aimed at younger pupils, and contains many songs they may already know, plus little duets etc, and lots of little pictures.

I bought a book for alto sax (because it was in E flat like the kinder), I think it was by De Haske, and called 'Kids play easy solo's'. I had to write them out an octave lower, and many used low B, A and G, but great to play along to (hard to find these for kinder!) and encourages good lower finger positions early on!

It is a good book, but do be aware it has very little in it in the way of technique advice. But the tunes are fab, yes! biggrin.gif

Had the said pupil today and she is TINY..... really sweet. I think I'll go with Clarinet Basics as her sister has it anyway... and I like it!
She is big enough for the Eb kinder, but when I saw her with her class.... she was the smallest. I told the school they might have to invest in some more kinders as at playtime, she kept looking in the window and waving, saying to her friends 'That's my clarinet teacher!!!!'.
I've never had a pupil so young.... I think I might need to make some new games etc for her..... or at least adapt what I do. It's a challenge.....
