Can someon do grade 6 theory in a year?

I ask this question because someone was telling me that she only started piano a year ago and s doing grade 6 theory. But you can't do any grade 6 stuff till you have done your grade 5!

and also, i thought you needed a minimum of about 2 years to study grade theory...even smart ppl need 2 years

I think it is possible. I did my Grade 2, 3 & 4 in three months and Grade 5 in the following 3 months.

I did my grade 5 theory at one stroke straight without doing 1,2,3.4. It took only 6 months time for me to do gr 5. If one has good determination even 8 is possible to do in the following year. It needs hard work and interest.

I did each of grade 6, 7 and 8 theory in a year.
That was not from scratch though.

You don't need grade 5 theory to be able to do the higher theory grades but you do need to know all the things on the 1 -5 syllabus.

Just out of my curiosity. I did my Grade 5 theory in rush as I want to sit for my grade 7 practical. If you have grade 6 theory but not grade 5 can you sit for grade 7 practical?

Im studying 6 too at mo - My sister took a month to pass hers but she only scraped a pass - Id hate that - I think the idea of going beyond 5 is cause you enjoy it and want to know more in detail - I wanna do really well - so im not gonna rush -

I wreckon a yearll do it thow - Its not really very hard - theres just a lot to remember

I'd rather take my time to study and enjoy the music theory, rather then rushing jsut to show off ure grade or just because u want a high grade

I think it's possible! I was lazy in grades 1-5 (2 years!) but during summer holidays I studied for a week about 3 hours a day and finished grade 6!! If you don't do anything than studying theory anyone can complete a lot of grades in a year.
