I've come across a dashed slur across a couple of phrases in a vocal line, does anybody know what it might mean?
It's a reprise of a song, and the timing is different to the previous appearance - might have something to do with it?
Thanks!

A dashed slur -
if by dashed you mean not a solid line - usually means it fits some words and not others.

Yeah the whole slulr is a dotted line, over a few phrases of about 3 bars in length each.

actually that's less usual - the length I mean. 3 bars worth can't indicate word underlay. I think I must be visualising something a bit different. Can I just clarify - it is a curved slur and not a dotted straight line?

That's right - it's definately a dashed slur. Thanks for your help so far!

Hiya, I might not be understanding exactly what you mean - but if it is a dashed slur I was rather under the impression it simply meant that the slur was added by an editor (ie not in the original) - looked it up in AB guide to music theory and that seems to confirm it (?) p 82 of pink book.
"A short vertical stroke through the middle of a slur merely indicates that the slur has been added by an editor. Small brackets either side of a slur or a broken slur (shows a picture of a dashed slur) are other ways of denoting the same thing."

Oh excellent - thanks FS!
I initially visualised
a short vertical stroke through the middle of a slur and then realised that was not what the OP was describing. I don't remember seeing the 'dashed' type of slur in a piece of music, but that certainly makes sense.
