Does anyone know why we dont get any recognition for high scores in theory? I really want one of thos pens and badges or something cause I got 95/100 for my grade 5 and I wreckon that deserves something - anyone else agree?

When I got distinction for grade 6 and 7 theory I got an award.
Apparently this was a fund someone had set up because he thought that high scores in theory should not go unrecognised.(must have changed as I didn't get it for distinction at grade 8 in 2002 sad.gif )
As far as I remember it went to anyone in USA who got 100% at grade 1 - 5 and extended to other countries for distinction at grades 6 -8.

There aren't any prizes for theory until you get to grade 6. It's a lot easier to get almost full marks in theory than in practical as there's no subjective aspect. You'll find that quite a few people do get high marks in theory, I got 98, Natalie got 96 and there are quite a few others, including some people with 100. I'm afraid it's not rare enough to warrant a prize but you could always buy yourself a pen if you want to wink.gif.

My son got 100% for his Grade 8 theory about 12 or 13 years ago, which is really pretty spectacular. I would have thought this would receive some acknowledgement from the Board, but it didn't! I was delighted though, especially as I'd taught him myself! biggrin.gif

I agree! 100% is definately something to celebrate!! I do think there should be some sort of recognition for high scorers.

If you look in the Annual Review for 2002 you'll see that there are quite a large number of prizes awarded for the higher theory grades in a number of countries (and yes, for some reason the USA gets prizes for lower grades and no one else does...). I suspect that nothing less than 100% would be good enough to get one of these prizes (although I may be wrong) as there probably aren't very many prizes compared to the number of people doing the exam.

I feel quite bad now for thinking 95 was good sad.gif

It true. It is all our hard work & effort. The highest mark I got from was 97/100, grade 5. I'm aiming for full mark if possible in the higher grade.

Just out of interest what actual marks did you get to get the prizes? (Did you say that you got one for 6 and 7 as well?) Good luck with tracking down your grade 8 one!

Something I just read in the annual review: in 2002 there were 616 examiners and 607,544 exam entries. That's nearly 1000 exams per examiner, surely that's not possible: it's a heck of a lot! Now we can really understand why they must be sick of creepy crawly wink.gif.
