Ok, while I've entered it on a whim, I'm feeling a little silly and irresponsible for doing it, but nonetheless I'm going to give it my best shot.
I've entered grade 8 piano (my worst instrument given the others) as well as doing the grade 1 challenge on flute on the same day:
For those who don't know it, the grade 1 challenge is simply to enter yourself on an instrument which you don't play, and 1 week before your exam is due to take place, you THEN start your practice.
Does anyone else fancy taking the challenge with me? The reason I chose flute was because my flautist friend fancies doing the same on the oboe, so we're swapping instruments for a week
I guess i'm at a slight advantage with DipABRSM oboe under my belt, but nonetheless what greater fun than a fresh (but chaotic) experience?

We have an ongoing grade 1 challenge here on the forum but it's a bit more open ended that yours.
We have no time limit, just the challenge to take grade 1 on a second (or subsequent) instrument.
My grade 1 clarinet certificate has 'Forum Challenge' in the 'presented for examination by' space.
Several of the original grade 1 challengers are still playing their new instruments 2 years on and some are now working towards grade 5.
Most of us have raised money for charity by getting sponsors for our grade 1s.

Thanks sbhoa,
being idle, I didn't check to see if the idea had been mentioned before, I only heard it from my friend a couple of months ago and thought it was a good idea!
Perhaps it's not going to be unrealistic to expect a distinction? I suppose aural, sightreading and general musicianship should boost the marks where scales don't meet the criteria!

I'm doing grade 2 (grade one was far to easy) in Tuned percussion in June. I'm having great fun. In fact, I have just bought 'A little prayer' by Evelyn Glennie to have a go at...

Nice challenge, and a completely gorgeous piece. I absolutely love it. Good luck with grade 2!

Thanks!! I absolutely love the marimba. I've been trying to find a 2nd hand one from somewhere but they are as rare as hens teeth. The only ones around are on ebay in the US!!
I found a yamaha 4.3 octave one for 1500 which isn't too bad.

I thought about doing that!! I went straight in at grade 5, and even then I only got 117 or something! Although, I blame the teacher - she went to have a baby and left me to be taught by a pianist.
