Hi

As regards playing scales and arpeggios using a metronme, what should a begginer be aiming for as opposed to a more advanced player?

Regards
JohnS
Minimum speed for Gr 1 is crotchet = 60 for scales and crotchet = 46 for arpeggios. Although beginners would aim for a slower speed than this, I would say it is more important to get the correct fingering, notes, an even length and tone and a nice sound rather than concentrating on speed.

Absolutely; Quality first, then speed comes more or less naturally, if gradually, right up to grade 8.

Then grinds to a halt!
