Many years ago when doing my Grade 4 on flute (the good old days), I had about 10 bars left to play on one of my pieces and everything was going fine (well, fine by my standards, anyway) until there was a huge sudden gust of wind from one of the very top windows which proceeded to blow all my music off the stand! Fortunately, I had memorised the pieces (I think everyone does with pieces that they practice loads anyway) so was able to get to the end of it fairly calmly and accurately.

Anyone else got any stories of weird and random things that have happened to them in music exams? The pieces, examiners, instruments....whatever!

What does the examiner have to say about THAT?

I did a Trinity College Performer's certificate (voice) which was like the old Associated Board Advanced Certificate, and on one piece the accompanist and i never did get it together. Afterwards the examiner said to me that as a performance it was bad but that he thought I might do it better with a better accompanist so could he play it for me? So he did and marked me on that and I passed (didn't deserve to either!)

I heard many stories from my teacher....

My teacher's friends student was asked to warm up and he ran around the room. Then he continued to run around the room after every piece!!! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Another one was after my teacher's student had finished with his exam then grabbed a sqiushed cake from his back pocket and slammed it ont he examiners table and said "this is for you"! ohmy.gif biggrin.gif

laugh.gif I remembered when i was a little girl, i went for my grade 2 exams ,just before i went into the studio the steward kept reminding me to greet the examiner ' Good Afternoon, Sir" when i see him but at that rebellious age, i greeted him ' Good afternoon, Mdm' instead.Throughout the examination i kept saying . Sorry Mdn , (for the mistakes i made) Thank You,Mdm and Goodbye Mdm . I didn't understand the strange and funny expressions on his face. Later then i realised that i mistook Mdm as Man tongue.gif
