So here's a random poll smile.gif

I chose Romantic - although this is more for piano songs...because I like how the harmonies can be more chromatic and expressive smile.gif Although, I think for songs with I full orchestra I prefer classical, as I prefer less percussion than there is in some of the orchestra pieces in the Romantic era.

Good idea for a poll by the way - v. interesting biggrin.gif

Hard to say, I think overall I'd go for the Classical era - certainly for orchestral music it's great. But there's some very nice modern stuff as well! (more 20th Century though)

Have you listed eras rather than genres? Aren't musical genres something else? wacko.gif

baroque is so impressive...all those ornaments, and recorders wub.gif well...that says it all, ornaments with recorders and other amazing creations, that effect with, mostly, tiny orchestras (if you can call them that)...what more can I say...

Yes, genres are things like; symphonies, concertos, motets etc. You've also missed out 20th century, which is where my vote would go.

That's OK, but can we have 20th century in there, or is it too late?

I chose 21st then I remebered Jazz was 20th... blush.gif BUT there wasn't 20th!
So actually if i would choose again I would go Baroque! (even tho jazz is better lol) tongue.gif

To be honest there's so much variety and so much music that I love from each era that it's basically impossible to decide which single period I like the best. I mean from baroque there's the bach cello suites, vivaldi four seasons, all sorts of sonatas and concerti grossi, etc. Classical there's mozart and Haydns symphonies, and boy is there a lot of choice from there! Romantic is where it gets real interesting, brahms sonatas, concerti by dvorak, saint-saens, etc. And with 20th century it can be divided into numerous categories - impressionism, post-romanticism, experimentalism, minimalism, serialism, nationalism and post-modernism. There's so much to choose from, and to be honest it all depends on my mood what I like to listen to, so I really honestly cannot pick just one of those options!

I like symphonic stuff (by genre)

The usual suspects: Mozart, Beethoven, Dvorák, Tchaikovsky, but besides the giants I also quite like Weber, Richard Strauss and (some) Stravinsky

(see if I don't put Debussy down then this is more or less classical/romantic era...)
anisha93
ooh, i see so far that most people agree with my opinion: Romantic.

Tis gorgeous.

I love all the genres. smile.gif

Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Handel etc... different stuff.

No 20th Century, so I choose romantic smile.gif I like all of them though - we all need variety!

Variety is the spice of life, and music is no exception. I found it really difficult to choose, and kept changing my mind. So I went to consult my CD collection, and counted up how many I have in each musical era (I am a bit of an anorak when it comes to stuff like this, I'll admit).

I had to vote 'Baroque', as I have almost as many CD's of Bach, Handel, Corelli, Vivaldi, Monteverdi, Albinoni, Rameau, Scarlatti, Purcell, Biber, Schutz, etc etc, as all the other eras put together... blush.gif

So, going back to the original poll, I too noticed that the 20th Century was omitted. But how did the Renaissance and Medieval periods get left out as well...? Where can I vote for Palestrina, Josquin de la Prez, Allegri, Gesualdo, Tallis, Dowland, Victoria, Byrd, Gibbons, Taverner, Gabrieli, etc etc... party1.gif

For a while, I struggled between romantic and classical...and in the end I picked classical because I play Beethoven way better than I play Chopin. Chopin sounds beautiful...but not when I play it.

And also I like listening to louder, faster pieces with less pedalling, and classical pieces generally (but not always!) fit that description better than romantic ones.

I just don't understand 21st century piano music, or written for any instrument at all (I'm talking about instrumental music here, and not about popular bands, singers, etc.). I know that it can be very good sometimes, and that it's a defficiency on my part...but I still don't get it.

I'm still convinced I could survive on Romantic music alone.... wub.gif

love both romantic and 20th century

but if i have to choose, i'd prefer 20th century wub.gif
