HI!

i am from malaysia too!

Anyway, my name is Sara tongue.gif Welcome to the ABRSM forum!

i play the flute and piano.
Dont worry, i hav the same ambitions as you.

I want to go to RCM but i dont know the requiremnts...sounds tough to get in!
I think that you have to be grade 8 in both theory and practical if im not mistaken? Is RCM the 'oxford' for music?

It will be great if anyone could provide some details! biggrin.gif

Hi there!
What great ambitions you both have 'music_freak' and 'missfabflute'! I am very impressed and wish you all the best.
I've just looked up the Royal College of Music website at www.rcm.ac.uk and here is what they say on minimum entrance qualifications:

"BMus(Hons) and Experience Programmes
The normal entrance requirements are:
» A level Music at grade C or above [most students achieve grade A or B] and either
» a second A level at grade E or » two AS levels both at grade C or above (not including Music)
Music Technology is not accepted as a substitute for A level Music, but can be your second A level or one of your AS levels.
If you are not taking A level Music, but still wish to apply to the Royal College of Music, you may still be considered if you can demonstrate an appropriate level of musical knowledge and literacy. You may be tested/interviewed at audition to ascertain this.
Alternative entrance qualifications which are accepted instead of A levels are:
» three SCE Higher Grade passes, one of which should be in Music
» Advanced GNVQs
» European or International Baccalaureate or other equivalent international qualifications "

They have an open day and I think you should go! The date is Wednesday 13 April 2005, starts at 11am:
"Open Day gives prospective students, parents and teachers the chance to ‘access all areas’. There will be all kinds of live music, introductions to the faculties, a selection of open lessons, workshops and rehearsals, and tours by current RCM students who will happily answer questions and give you the most candid impression of what it’s truly like studying here."

exactly what is the appropriate level of music knowledge?
grade 8 minimum?

it sounds like i can get in BUT then again, my mum won't let me apply for RCM yet. I will have ti do a music diploma in malaysia, before i apply. i will have a diploma music performance before i go to RCM.

but then, i will hav wasted 2-3 years doing that when i can go to RCM straightaway afer A-levels. But i just...only will hav grade 5 sad.gif

Argh i cant attend the open day! i will be busy with my final year of A-levels tongue.gif

Hey welcome to the boards.

I want to go to the RCM when I go to university, I'm working for my music GCSE at the moment, and I'll be taking it next year. I also want to join the Junior Department which is on a Saturday in London, as I live an hour and a bit away from London.

Welcome...... you will enjoy yourself in this forum.
All the best and hope that both of your wish-'music_freak' and 'missfabflute' will come true.
Anyway, I come from your neighbouring country.
Currenthly, I play piano & violin.

I also wish one day, I can be able to enter prestigious university..

Let's all work hard for our goals.
