Hi i have just brought an alto saxophone in an aim to teach myself. I was just wondering if anyone knows any good books with some jazz tunes etc. or tunes that will help me pick it up better.smile.gif
Maybe something with improvisation?

My son used "Look, Listen and Learn" when he first started out, but you may find them a bit childish. I thought the books were quite good though, as you play along with a CD, and they do include some basic improvisation. Some of the tunes are better than others, and some are just plain irritating, but I did think it was a good beginner's book.

Hi

Maybe You could try one of the real books they have quite a lot of famous tunes in with quite a lot of space to improvise or do what you want. The Only downside is they can cost up to £30 so its only really if your very serious about playing with a bit of money to burn!

I started out with Andy Hampton's Saxophone Basics. It was great as a starter with lots of little things to do as you progressed and a range of tunes and trivia to start a player off. It is one of the best books you can ever have as a beginner.(In my Opinion)

Hope This Helps.

Saxlad,
Thanks this does help. I think I will try them even though they cost a lot. I think it is impotant to learn the basics but also so have fun!
