Does anyone know anywhere I can get cheap downlaodable sheet music for violin? The kind where you just print it straight away.

The best thing is to Google it. There are some free sites, some of which are entirely legal (i.e., long-out-of-copyright), there's Sibeliusmusic.com, where people post their own compositions and arrangements; there's all sorts out there if you look. But I shouldn't post what you find here, as the AB wil probably remove reference to any sites which cannot be guaranteed 100% legal. Downloada culpa, as they say in Budleigh Salterton.

The FAQ has a big list of places for getting music, and while some of them are shops for buying music books from, some are places for downloads (including free downloads)...

Most modern music will be copyright, so of course you must buy it. This is quite right. To do otherwise is theft!

The good news is that just about all Rennaissance, Baroque and Classical music can be found on the internet, free to download.

Be aware that many publishers take this music from composers long dead - and publish it with a few dynamics changed, or in collections - and then claim copyright. This is legal. But there's nothing to stop you doing the same and selling it on Ebay. Many people do!

So you have to be careful.

There's a list of free music here:

Just scroll down.

Steve

PS With the help of the ABRSM we can stop the abuse and confusion of the out-of-copyright laws and make people aware of just what is available to them!!!

Obviously I am not going to take free music and sell on e-bay etc... I would like to think there are better ways of making money, mainly by getting a job.

Just like to use free music if it is legal to do so. It also gives me inspiration when writing my own music.

Beinga student money is tight so the less i need to spend on music books the better. I need to save to buy a car when I get my license.

But this IS a job for many people.

When you go into a music shop and buy '10 Easy Violin Pieces' or similar, how do you think that book has got there?

www.sheetmusicarchive.net has some violin music, mostly Paginini but also some Mozart, Beethoven and some Bach I think.

And their subscription now is quite reasonable!
