Does anyone out there know if there any midi files available for the ABRSM Jazz Trumpet exam pieces.

These would be very useful for experimenting with writing solos for playing back on my computer etc.

Hi Mark!
I've raised this very point to the ABRSM recently (check out the posting in PARENTS under Practice CD's worthwhile?).
I've asked them to consider publishing MIDI files for their practical exams - their response - they'll raise it at their next meeting!
As you'll see in my other postings on this, I think MIDI files are great to practice along with.
Question: Why don't you 'make' your own for the few pieces you've selected?

Indy,

Thanks for the response.

To create a midi file myself that replicates the performances on the CD would be beyond me I think. However, I've just received Band-in-a-box 2004 and I'm looking forward to playing around with this. I might be able to create songs in a similar style to the CD, create midi files from these, and then tweak them in other programmes to get to what I want. We'll see.

By the way, I posted a reply to the post you mentioned regarding altering the pitch of practice CDs which some people might find interesting.

I'm very interested in the software which you refer to in the other post - what is it called? (you might put the answer in the other post)
Band-in-a-box is IDEAL for jazz - why didn't I think of that - given I've had it since version 7 I think and have upgraded each time, to v12 at the moment.
If you have a MIDI keyboard, you could play your melody line into Binabox (or get someone else to do it) and record it - having put in the chords etc already.
I don't know anything about the jazz exams.
Is there any particular piece or style you need help on (I've got a LOT of midi files already!)?

Indy,

I'll reply to your point about software in the other post.

I'll spend some time getting to know how to use b-i-a-b first of all. In a matter of minutes I had downloaded Moonglow and was playing along with it. This programme certainly looks to be the business for the price (£44 on ebay including the Edirol VSCv3 plug-in).

If I get stuck, or can't find styles or songs I'm after I'll shout out.

Thanks,

Mark.
