Full Version: Mnemonic For Order Of Modes

Anyone got any ideas for remembering the order of the modes? (Ionian, Dorian, Phygrian etc.). I can place Dorian as its like C major but starts on a D (for Dorian). The theory breaks down after that!
Something like the ones for flats and sharps (Father Christmas Got Dad An Electric Blanket for example) would be great!

Perhaps we should have a thread just for useful mnemonics.

My favourites:

'Oh, be a fine girl, kiss me!. OBAFGKM Classification of stars.

'Richard of York gave battle in vain' ROYGBIV Colours of rainbow

' Pigs can't copulate on farms, their goolies shrink' PCCoOFTGS Classification of Animals

Any others?

Going off at an entertaining tangent, from the world of IT we bring you GNU

GNU is not Unix

But what does the GNU stand for in GNU's not Unix?

Why GNU is not Unix of course.

Infinite recursion!

(Damn, Damn and Damn again)

The quality control leaves much to be desired.

Hence the old IT expression "I've got some good GNUs and some bad GNUs" wink.gif
