I've got the opportunity to buy one of these from a friend who is moving house. I've been thinking about getting a keyboard for a while because I've got a toddler and my music room is right below her bedroom. She's quite used to me practising, but sometimes she does wake up and I have to abandon my practice session. I'd also like something that (eventually) I might be able to use for public performances. For example, we've got a family party coming up in a few weeks, with various family members doing musicial turns - the venue doesn't have a piano, but if I had a keyboard I'd definitely want to play. Do you think this would suit my needs...?

http://www.ukpianos.co.uk/yamaha-dgx505.htmlIf the price is right its well worth doing - I have a dgx-300 and find it great for in the middle of the night when I cant sleep - Its not a replacement for an acoustic piano but it does add another dimension to playing, and its good hooking it up to music programs (cubase and sibelius !) on the computer.

I've got a DGX 505 and I really like it. It is very popular with my pupils - they are allowed on it as a special treat - it does lots of sound effects as well as musical voices. I have used it to play in the pit for various musicals and so on and it does a reasonable job in the context of a band. However the touch is very different from a piano and it is not suitable for regular piano practice or solo 'piano' performances (IMHO). However, if you can get it for a reasonable price, you have room etc, I'm sure you could have a lot of fun with it.
