Sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch in your violin playing. Can you tell us where you lost your marks in the exam - was it in the pieces, scales, sight-reading or aural? Was any one section particularly bad, or were the marks just generally low in all sections?
If, for example, your aural work let you down, you could buy a tape of practice tests so that you could do some extra work on it. If your sight-reading isn't very good, see if you can join some sort of band/orchestra where you would get lots of sight-reading practice.
Exams aren't the only goal to strive for - how about getting more experience by entering for a Music Festival in your area? They are usually friendly events, and you can get some useful feedback from the adjudicators.

hi!
as purple dolphin said you shouldnt give up the violin because you didnt pass the exam.I failed my grade 4 violin and i just stopped having lessons and doing exam work and just played fun music by myself. The break has really done me good coz now im thinking of starting it again! So maybe just have a break from exams and play different stuff!I also agree that you should look at the areas that you fall down and practice really hard on them!!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
Hope this helps!

I don't think any grade 5 exam really hard to pass. examiners are want you passing the exam. don't give up. give youself one more chance to enjoy music.
