My B period piano exam results are on the site today, only 10 days after they sat the exam. That's immensley quick in my book!
Sadly my incredibly ropey G2 didn't disappoint. A dismal 94 fail. She knew she hadn't done great, but I'm not looking forward to telling mum. Wish I had gone with my gut instinct, and not entered her. Unfortunatly she made a improvement at the wrong time, and I was conned. I mean, 11/21 for scales. 13/21 for sightreading. 17/30 for The Bee. ill.gif
But on the flip side of the coin, my G4 got me my very first Distinction. So pleased for her. It's the first time any of my pupils have had 21/21 for sight reading, which I thought was awesome!
Not sure which Smilie to put on though. woot.gif or sad.gif !

Sorry to hear about the fail but at least you got a fab result with another student who is clearly dedicated. 21 for Sr eading is fab!!!!!

Good results always make teaching worthwhile.

Give yourself a pat on the back!

I know exactly what you mean! I had one of those last autumn. Put a spurt on just before the entries went in, then went downhill for the next two months.

Still, congratulations on your other one! that's a great score for sight reading!

Flute exam results from June 2 (the 1st day of the session here) appeared online last night; a grade 4 merit and a grade 2 distinction. smile.gif

Well done to both susiejean and Andy-piano-flute for your successful candidates, and commiserations on the fail. I know all about the highs and lows, susiejean, as I had a huge difference between my best and worst candidates last term.

Well done

Am expecting one dreadful result for one of my candidates from this group. Accompanist a good friend and tells me this pupil just threw the towel in and was in a really stroppy mood on the day. Even told examiner that she hadn't done any scales ph34r.gif ph34r.gif ph34r.gif and wouldn't even attempt them.
Has already done 2 grades so knows the routine by now. Havn't spoken to her since as she is a school pupil.

We had worked well - accompanist happy with rehearsals etc.

Kid wee bit of a moody mare anyway bit this I wasn't expecting.

Hopefully the others will make up for it.

21/21 for sight reading is fabulous. smile.gif

Why would she tell the examiner she hadn't done any scales? Silly girl! Presumably that means no marks at all for that section. Or did she attempt any?

I have 3 students taking exams today - all had been well on track, until their final lessons last night, when two of them seemed to go to pieces! Wrong fingering in scales, mistakes in their pieces etc. They've both done exams before and are bright, hard working students, as well as being lovely girls. I kept very calm and tried to be positive, but I was thinking argh.gif Just have to keep my fingers crossed!

Can't make up my mind whether to phone and tell mum today, so I can rest easy, or to leave it till I get the results in the post, so I can try and squeeze something positive out of the examiners comments to pass on.
The pupil did tell me at her lesson on Mon, that she had got all the scales wrong, and that The Bee was a disaster, so I can't see it being a big surprise to her, but mum is NOT going to be pleased. The poor girl hates exams, and would never have even sat her G2, but mum wanted her to. glare.gif I can see me losing a pupil at best, and part of my reputation at worst. Wouldn't be so bad, but my merit and distinction pupils are 20 miles away, so it won't even balance out the idle gossip. sad.gif

I'd wait for the mark sheet.
Too bad that mum pushed her into it when she was not happy about it.

Have got the reports in, and he has been very positive in his comments. Only trouble is, I'm struggling to read his writing, and I mean REALLY struggling. What do you do in these circumstances? I've never had this problem to this level before.

I have often found this to be a problem and it's rather frustrating when parents can't read the remarks and have to come to me for a 'translation'! After one recent session, I printed all the remarks out for parents to keep.
Perhaps handwriting should be taken into consideration when examiners are chosen. I'm joking, of course, but it is a problem. Any ideas?

While I appreciate that it could mean more work and cost for the AB, typewritten printed reports would be better.

On the other hand, with modern 'silent operation' keyboards on laptops, couldn't examiners type them in as they go along?

I always remember my mother complaining about my school reports being totally illegible, with the teachers handwriting, "looking more like a drunken spider has crawled across the page".......

When I look at some of the AB handwritten reports, I can quite see why she used the term she did.
