Anyone see that superb programme on BBC 1 this evening
about Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic on tour in China... ?
What did you think?

I agree... it almost seemed as if it was going to be a bit of a 'fly-on-the-wall' trip to the Far East, but I felt it said so much more.

It was very, very good. If it gets repeated, do watch it if you missed yesterday's showing.
Or there's the BBC's iPlayer service...

I watched it last night and found it interesting in a limited way. I would have liked to have seen the internal politics of the orchestra demonstrated in some way, rather than lots of the 'oh music is my saviour because I couldn't relate to anyone when I was a child' type of interviews which seemed to pepper the whole... Rattle was funny though - interesting to see how most of his 'humour' fell flat amongst the rank-and-file...

Watched it on my DVD after recording it.
Not at all what I expected, but very enjoyable all the same. I always find Simon amusing.

Imagine is such an interesting programme...just a shame that it's on at a ridiculously late time! Did anyone else do the "amusica" test on the BBC website after last weeks episode? I ony got 27/30 and 29/30 because I answered it with my grade 8 aural head on and kept imagining microscopic differences eg. hmm, well the second time that third quaver was slightly more staccato than the first time...
