Full Version: A Good Afternoon

This afternoon four of us - Andante-in-C, Barry-Clari, Teigr and I, played as a recorder quartet in a local music festival.

For me this was quite a daunting prospect. I only ever did one festival before, during my inglorious period of learning the flute as a young 'un. And in that festival, the adjudicator had no compunction in ripping my performance to shreds.

I was delighted that this time, the adjudicator was friendly and positive. He said some lovely things about our ensemble playing, and how we had achieved a good balance between the instruments, being equal partners rather than one overshadowing the others.

We came away with a "commended". And I came away with a fear confronted and defeated.

So a big thankyou to the other three - and here's to some more playing.

Thanks. Victoria's O Magnum Mysterium and Mr Willobie's arrangement of The Sailor's Hornpipe. biggrin.gif

As katyjay said in her introduction yesterday, two very contrasting pieces. The adjudicator turned out to have studied recorder with Edgar Hunt, so knew what he was talking about, and said that he was ashamed to admit hadn't come across the Willobie Press arrangements before. laugh.gif He has now!

biggrin.gif Glad it went so well! Mr Willobie is looking suitably smug...

smile.gif I enjoyed it. It's the first music festival I've entered (as opposed to entered others for) for many, many years, and the first on recorder.

Indeed - here's to some more playing! biggrin.gif

If my memoru serves me right "commended" means "an accomplished perfomance both technically and artistically", which I'm sure it was !!!

Well done.

I've now played in 2 music festivals and very much enjoyed the experience - both adjudicators were very helpful.

It would be nice to have met up with some of the forum concert goers. Perhaps we should pick a festival and all go!

Well done again!
