I feel you pain. I broke one of my left finger last year, 2 weeks before I was going to enrol myself for my grade 8 piano exam. It was a blow!!! I argued with the doc and tried convincing him it was just sprained. He didn't buy it

I almost went nuts.. At first I started with just playing with my right hand, it got boring, so I gradually learnt how to just play with 3 fingers on the left. Only thing was, when I got the bandage and pins off months later, it felt weird playing with 5 fingers. I had to 'relearn' how to use all 5 fingers together. Weird.. I'm not sure what instruments you play though. I play the violin as well, and that was just impossible so I didn't touch it for the next 6 months.
If you have friends doing music you can also get them to play while you listen/watch at the side. It doesn't matter if it is just a beginner. It just feels so good to see someone doing what you want to do

This is more 'real' as opposed to listening to recordings. Save the recordings for those times where you're seconds away from pulling off all the bandages they put on you and do some proper playing. You'll also be surprised at how much you can learn and improve just by watching others. Also, you can practice scales or technical work with just the uninjured arm. As a result of doing that, my right hand scales is now 10 times better than the other, so that's a bonus.
Don't worry, you'll get through it and hopefully get better soon! Hope this helps and before you know it, you'll be back to playing!!
