Hi,
Our orchestra leader is leaving and we'd all really like to get him a present. He's been in the orchestra for 7 years but is now off to uni. He's a fantastic guy and we all appreciate him a lot butt we can't think of a good present?

Hes 17/18, off to uni, plays violin and piano, so something useful but musical-ly may be good?

Any ideas?! smile.gif
Thanks x

Does he have a metro(g)nome ??

Could you find out what strings he uses and get him a couple of spare E and A strings? That would be a really useful gift and you could enclose a card with a photograph of your group on it for him to keep.

These are really good ideas thanks!

I was also thinking of a metro(g)nome smile.gif but he probably has one.

I like the strings idea, i will look into that thanks!
And the musical boxx! smile.gif.

Thanks. x

Is he going to read music? If so, and if he already has a metronome, how about a really good music dictionary, or the Oxford Companion to Music. Or the Cambridge Companion to the Violin. Amazon vouchers?

He's the violinist leader. Its only a school orchestra. But he's been in it for all school years and he is really lovely, supportive and he took the rehearsal tonight when our conductor couldn't come.

There are about 16 violinists, 2 oboes, 3 flutes, 2 clarinets, 3 trumpets, 2 french horns, 1 trombone, 1 viola, 3 cellists and a few percussionists so thats..(sorry can't do maths well!) 35 people.

ah, i thought it was a bigger orchestra, id have said all chip in (if you were older) a tenor or so (sorry lol) to get him a nice laptop for his studies.

But as its a school orchestra, i guess not.
